How truck lawyers can give an effective opening statement
Truck Roundtable Co-Founder Michael Leizerman speaks at Trucking Litigation Group for the American Association for Justice 2015 Annual Convention in Montreal
Roundtable Co-Founder Michael Leizerman presented to the American Association for Justice 2015 Annual Convention in Montreal this month at the trucking litigation track. He spoke before the Truck Accident Litigation Group, and his topic was about teaching attorneys how to give a powerful opening statement in a trucking case.
Michael gave examples from two of his recent trucking trials, recreating a portion of one of them that he performed live for the packed audience. He also discussed strategic use of visual aids and exhibits during opening statement and trial.
The goal of an effective opening statement is to include the jury, so they understand the devastating impact a truck wreck has had. And so the crash resonates with the jury so they’re motivated to fix the harms and losses that have been suffered.
Michael Leizerman was the first chair of the American Association for Justice Trucking Litigation Group, a national group that teaches accident lawyers how to properly litigate truck accident cases.
